Vermont-based yoga teacher Biff Mithoefer looks like the ultimate contradiction with his very long, very gray beard, sitting in a chi-chi Santa Barbra house. Not surprisingly, the type of yoga he teaches – Yin - is filled with the same type of contradictions. Is it easy or hard? Depends who you ask. Is it old or new? Same answer. Are there a set number of poses? Pretty much the same answer. Current Passions?: This seemed like a simple question, but as I thought about it more, I realized something interesting. The essence of my practice and teaching is about equanimity, about being present and joyful with what’s true in the present moment but my passions are about the future. How do we make things in the future better? How do we preserve things that are good? This can make me lose touch with the passion of the present moment. So I’m going to say that right now, my passion is right now, and I’m going to go passionately take a bike ride.
